About Gateway South Forsyth

As the gateway to one of Georgia’s fastest-growing counties, South Forsyth needs infrastructure and public spaces that can keep pace with that growth. Gateway South Forsyth is a business-led community improvement district working to create a more connected, accessible and welcoming commercial district through strategic investments in mobility, infrastructure, beautification and creative placemaking.

Formerly known as the South Forsyth CID, Gateway South Forsyth brings commercial property owners and public-sector partners together to advance infrastructure improvements, mobility and accessibility projects, beautification initiatives and creative placemaking throughout the district. Gateway South Forsyth helps identify priorities, secure resources and move projects forward that no single organization or government could accomplish alone. These efforts strengthen the district’s commercial corridors, support continued economic development and create a more attractive, functional environment for the businesses, employees, residents and visitors who experience South Forsyth every day.

Our new name reflects our strategic position as a gateway to Forsyth County, one of the nation’s fastest-growing communities, and our role in helping prepare South Forsyth for continued economic growth to benefit both businesses and the greater North Georgia region.

WHERE GROWTH AND CONNECTIVITY MEET

Located along Georgia SR 400 at the southern gateway to Forsyth County, the district serves as a critical connection between Metro Atlanta and one of Georgia’s most dynamic growth corridors. Forsyth County has been recognized as the No. 4 fastest-growing county in the United States (according to the U.S. Census Bureau), underscoring the need for transportation networks, infrastructure and public spaces that can accommodate continued residential and commercial growth. Gateway South Forsyth works with property owners, businesses and public-sector partners to ensure that infrastructure and public spaces keep pace with the area’s continued growth.

Anthony Rodriguez, Executive Director

Anthony Rodriguez, a career non-profit leader, is proud to have been named Executive Director of the South Forsyth County Community Improvement District, now Gateway South Forsyth. Prior to joining the Gateway South Forsyth, Anthony was the Executive Director of the HUB404 Conservancy and President and CEO of Aurora Theatre, a professional theatre he co-founded 29 years ago.

To date, Anthony’s greatest accomplishment has been the successful negotiation that relocated Aurora Theatre to downtown Lawrenceville in 2007. Under his leadership, Aurora became the second largest professional theatre in the state of Georgia, producing 850 events and entertaining more than 80,000 visitors each year. Aurora’s critical success inspired the City of Lawrenceville to invest in a $35 million campus expansion. The Lawrenceville Arts Center (LAC) opened in October of 2021, and Aurora continues to serve as the resident theatre company and management agent. LAC now serves as a cultural gathering place and an arts education incubator for the entire Metro Atlanta region.

Anthony is a past Chair of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, the first Latino and first Arts Leader to hold that position. He served as Vice Chair of Arts for the Chamber and Chair of Partnership Gwinnett and serves on the National Steering Committee for the Latinx Theatre Commons. Anthony is a graduate of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Regional Leadership Institute, Leadership Atlanta (#2classes) and the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures’ Leadership Institute and Advocacy Institute, all three exemplary programs for leaders who want to spearhead transformational change in community. He currently serves on various boards, both nationally and locally, including Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, National Alliance for Musical Theatre (Treasurer), and he serves on the Advisory Board for Public Broadcasting Atlanta which includes the NPR station WABE and PBS station PBA30.

Anthony, born in New York, and raised in Atlanta, graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre.

What is a CID?

A community improvement district like Gateway South Forsyth is a self-taxing district created by commercial property owners to help fund and advance public improvements within a defined geographic area. Led by a board of property owners and public appointees, the CID directs its resources toward projects that support mobility, infrastructure, accessibility and economic vitality. The CID model helps plan, fund and advance improvements that may be difficult or impossible for any single property owner or government agency to accomplish alone.

Under Georgia law, community improvement districts may direct funding toward eligible public improvements and services, including:

  • Street and road construction and maintenance
  • Parks and recreational areas
  • Stormwater and sewer infrastructure
  • Water infrastructure
  • Public transportation
  • Parking and transportation facilities
  • Public safety and other eligible services

Gateway South Forsyth evaluates potential investments based on the district’s needs, available resources and the project’s ability to create meaningful, long-term value.
